Wordful Wednesday: The Wizard of Oz Invite

So last week I couldn't decide what to do for the OP's birthday/ goodbye party. I asked for ideas and my bloggy friends came through. Yes you did! Short Mama from Family of Shorts mentioned Wizard of Oz and I went crazy. INSANE really! I loved that idea. I love parties. No no - I love planning parties. I go NUTS! I get all elaborate. The child in me comes out and there's no stopping her. Wizard of Oz is a fabulous idea, thanks Short Mama! Not only do I LOVE the Wizard of Oz but it's perfect, you see, because this is not just a birthday party but this will be the last time the OP sees all her friends before we move. She is leaving the Land of Oz or as I so endearingly call it the Land of Nowhere to go to our new home. So the munchkins will have to say goodbye at the end of the party. "There's no place like home, there's no place like home, there's no place like home" Way cool right? You know what else is cool? This Invitation I made (with the help of some friends): Oh ya! Check it out. It is called a waterfall card. A friend turned me on to it - you can find instructions for it here. It really is quite easy. Mine is different because we had to incorporate the Wizard of Oz theme or the Emerald City (thanks Torey) but Voila:

and here is a video:

What do you think? I am so so excited (so is the OP). You can't tell, right?

Now if I could only get that Lady Di to come for a visit so she can put her talents to use and make my house cake with little witch legs sticking out! Hint, Hint Lady Di! Come on you know you want to! I'll even let you dress up as Glinda the Good Witch. That's right folks - costumes. I told you the little girl in me comes out.

If you have any ideas for games, food or anything else. Please share. I already have a scavenger hunt planned for the Tin Man's heart, the Scarecrow's diploma and the lion's badge of courage. A broomstick relay is in the works too. So fun.

Very cute invites and a great party theme idea! I'm sure it will be a smashing success!

Don't forget to have your Wizard of Oz music (soundtrack?) playing in the background!

Have fun!

Those are so cute! We went to an Oz party a few years back and they had a Dorothy shoes cake. Good luck with the party!

Happy WW!

I'm such an OZ fan !!! We are elaborate party planners and throwers as well. It's just what we like to do in my family. Last year, my sister threw my niece an Oz birthday party and she ended up getting a feature on Cake Wrecks because of the terrible cake she got. My sister made these adorable cookie favors and had to redecorate the cake ! The Cake Wrecks story was hilarious.

Omygosh, you are putting me to shame. I've got a birthday party going on for my 13 year old this Saturday. Swimming and pizza... I'm obviously doing this all wrong! What a cute card and ideas you are coming up with, I'm so jealous!

What a great idea!! I love it! My sister and I looked forward to watching The Wizard of Oz every year when it came on TV, I think around Easter. It was a tradition for us to watch it. And I still love it. I used to have the dialogue and songs memorized from when she arrives in Munchkinland until she walks the yellow brick road. Now you know something pathetic about me.

Those turned out so cute!! Wizard of Oz is my favorite movie and I am thinking about forcing one of my daughters to have this as their party theme too lol. I have a blog website that I saved that had a ton of cute party ideas that they did with the same theme. Let me know if you want the url!

Holy Freakin' cute! I love it!

You should do party favors that are ruby slippers filled with treats!

They have the plastic "glass slippers" for cinderella, just get some of those and red glitter, "paint" glue on the shoes and douse with tons of red glitter.

There's probably something you could put over the top if you want the glitter to stay really good...but hey, they're takin' them home and then it's somebody else's mess, right?

Our Mission

To have a safe place where you can air all your mama drama without judgement, cause we know you don't always have the kids in bed by 7 and make creme brulee for dessert every night.

Oh yeah.........

and if you do, you're on the wrong blog!
